Imagine a vacation destination with a bed just like the one at home, your favorite foods, friends nearby, and to top it all off, your favorite content on demand. Have you ever tried a staycation? Before you show us the hand, let us show you that’s it’s a holiday worth considering. For a fun-filled and relaxing virtual getaway, check out our 8 best staycation ideas, and leave the packing behind.

1: Get away from the grind.

Sure, you’re at home, but that’s no reason to act like it. Forget doing the laundry, cooking meals, or mowing the lawn. Hire a cleaning service, order out, and arrange for the neighbor’s kid to do the yard work. Relax, and remember, compared to a vacation farther afield, you’re still well ahead of budget.

2:  Act like a tourist in your hometown.

Remember when Aunt Edna came to visit and you took her to see your local art museum? No? That’s because you were focused on where to park, where to take her next, and what to make for dinner given her dietary constraints. This time you’re the guest of honor. Stroll through those local museum galleries, botanical gardens, and seaports. Linger, gaze, and absorb the experience — your way.

3: Treat yourself to a spa day.

This is one of our favorite staycation ideas. When you’re lounging on the massage table wrapped in warm stone crop grasses after your skin has been expertly exfoliated and rehydrated with a mixture of honey and gold flakes, does it matter if you’re not actually in St. Tropez? We didn’t think so. Head over to the spa and get the full treatment.

4: Have a laugh with a themed crawl.

You heard us right. Vacation is the time to try new (and sometimes silly) things. Whether it’s craft beer, wine, or doughnuts, get your friends together and explore new territories. Even if things get a little crazy, what happens on staycation, stays on staycation.

5: Take that class, finally.

Staycation ideas come in all stripes. How about taking that sewing class you’ve been thinking about? Better yet, how about wine tasting? Now is the time to indulge your inner artist, musician, or ballroom dancer. The only rule is, it has to be fun.

6: Book a night at that fabulous hotel.

You may have had an amazing dinner at a top-notch hotel restaurant, but have you spent the night? Pretend you’re from out of town and do it up. Check in to the king suite and order room service. Sip from the mini-bar, heat up your towels, and prance around in a terry robe. Keep the pool-side bartender busy mixing Mai Tais and arrange that wake-up call – for noon.

7: Get outside.

Most of us spend the majority of our lives inside and use vacations for outside time. See where we’re going with this? Take advantage of local parks, greenspaces, lakes, shorelines, and mountain paths to get that holiday feeling without the travel hassle.

8: Binge watch … everything.

Who cares if it’s not glamorous? It’s YOUR time (usually featuring “Stranger Things,” “Game of Thrones,” or our personal favorite, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”). Put up your feet, grab the remote, and settle in to watch a full eight seasons of … whatever it is the kids are watching these days.

BONUS: Unplug.

Just because you’re reachable doesn’t mean you should be reachable. Post an “out of office” automated response on your email and (gasp) log out. Close up social and put your phone down. Feel better already? Getting away is easier than you might think, and this staycation idea may be the best of them all.
